The Collier County Sheriff's Office received some red carpet treatment in Naples Friday evening.
The traffic unit showed off 10 brand new motorcycles leased to the agency by Harley-Davidson. The bikes were on display at the Silverspot theater in time for the debut of the move "CHIPS".
The bikes are more fuel efficient than patrol cars and deputies are able to conceal themselves easier on the motorcycles while conducting traffic patrols.
"We are also able to get to scenes quicker, because as you've seen, if you drive down Pine Ridge Road at any time, you can drive down bike lanes and sidewalks and do everything we can to get to a scene quickly," said CCSO Sgt. Dale Dear.
Sgt. Dear says the new bikes will also help with enforcement of the department's "Just Drive" program, an effort to cut back on distracted driving.
