Standing water receded in many areas of Collier County on Monday after the weekend's massive amounts of rain, but Wagon Wheel Road at State Route 29 remained closed due to high water at the bridge.
"It's probably been a good ten years since it's been this bad," said Naomi Walden of Golden Gate Estates.
The street in front of her home at Hickory Wood Drive and Logan Boulevard was one of many roads in Collier County still flooded Monday.
"Maybe they're not possibly as cleaned out as they should be, the drainage," Walden said. "But for the most part, the rain has just been ridiculous."
While cars have been braving the several inches of water on Hickory Wood Drive, other roads in Golden Gate Estates were closed Sunday due to flooding, such as Everglades and Golden Gate Boulevards.
By Monday afternoon, only Wagon Wheel Road at State Route 29 remained closed. But many residential streets scattered throughout Collier County, like Dogwood Way in the Estates and Bottlebrush Lane in North Naples, were still covered in water.
While Collier County Public Schools will be open Tuesday, Margaret Hodge of Golden Gate Estates believes the school district made the right call by closing schools Monday.
"I think it creates a lot of anxiety and unnecessary stress of trying to commit to being on time," Hodge said. "(especially) in the traffic and the uncertainties of the conditions and safety of the road."
