LEE COUNTY, Fla. -- Investigators with the Lee County Sheriff's Office say they've arrested a man that intentionally shot and killed his own son Monday night.
41-year-old Jonathan Brunelle has been charged with one count of 2nd Degree Murder.
According to the Lee County Sheriff's Office, at 8:19 p.m. Monday, deputies responded to the 4600 block of 28th Street SW in Lehigh Acres and arrived to find that Brunelle shot 20-year-old Shane Brunelle, his son, during a domestic incident.
A sheriff's office report says deputies responded to Brunelle's address for a disturbance between the father and son. Deputies were called back shortly before 8:30 p.m. after Jonathan Brunelle reported he'd accidentally shot his son in the stomach. Shane Brunelle was unresponsive when deputies arrived and later died at a hospital.
Jonathan Brunelle was arrested and booked into the Lee County Jail Tuesday morning.
Deputies spoke with neighbors while clearing the crime scene Tuesday morning. Many were wondering why crime scene tape lined their block, and were wanting to learn more about why Brunelle allegedly murdered his own son.
“If only I knew there was something I could do to help…but to be next door its just scary.” Andreana Dassie lives two doors down. She had no clue the father and son had any problems, or that the father had a long list of arrests that included multipule DUI and battery charges. “Everytime I waved, they waved back. No issues…none, whatsoever.”
And birthday pictures posted to Facebook from years past don't show any issues between the two either.
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office is calling this an isolated domestic incident, and those living there in the neighborhood are not facing any danger.
