Three horses were found malnourished last week and are now in the possession of the Lee County Sheriff's Office.
One of the horses was in such bad shape it collapsed as it was being loaded into a trailer.
Deputies say the 8 year old horse was not properly cared for and had not eaten in some time.
The horses were found when officers saw them running lose.
The owner of the horses, Robert Mullins, is facing animal cruelty charges. He now has to convince a judge he can take care of the animals before he can get them back.
