An Immokalee man was arrested for launching a dog out of his car at a dumpster, the Collier County Sheriff's Office said.

The incident took place earlier this month near the Handy Food Store at 2902 Lake Trafford Road.

Deputies say they found the dog wrapped in Christmas lights by the dumpster. The dog was covered in blood and appeared to be gasping for air, CCSO said.

Animal control later arrived and transported the dog to a veterinarian in Naples.

Deputies later identified 49-year-old Norberto Delarosa as the man who abandoned the dog.

When Delarosa was questioned he told deputies that the dog was rescued from a drainage. He later drove the dog to the Handy Food Store and left it by the dumpster because "there was plenty of food on the ground for the dog to eat", the report stated.

He was arrested and charged with Cruelty to Animals.
