NAPLES, Fla. -- Immokalee farmer workers and their families were protesting outside a newly opened Publix this weekend.
Protesters gathered outside the Publix on Immokalee Road Sunday to encourage the company to join the Fair Food program.
The group says by Publix not joining the program, they are not supporting human rights. "We are here as farm workers protesting Publix, because we believe that human rights are essential to farm workers in the fields and that Publix has a responsibility to respect the human rights of farm workers," said Oscar Odcoy.
The group says dozens of other stores have joined, including McDonalds, Burger King, and Walmart.
No word yet whether Publix plans to join in the near future.
