CLEWISTON, Fla. -- People in Hendry County are preparing and some are evacuating as Hurricane Irma moves closer to the U.S.

Residents reported shortages of water and supplies at local stores, such as plywood and shutters. Some said they are depending on sandbags to aid in flooding if Lake Okeechobee overflows.

Emergency Management Operations officials are also ordering a voluntary evacuation for those who live in trailers, mobile homes, and RV's. A list of shelters can be found here.

EOC officials said they are confident there will not be a breach in Lake O and are prepared for high water rescues if necessary.
