FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Fort Myers Police Chief Derrick Diggs addressed citizens Monday night, one year since his appointment.
Those in attendance were concerned about a recent outbreak of crime, including several unsolved shootings and killings. despite that some said they feel safer than they did a year ago.
They also asked about the size of his department and what he's changed in his first year. Diggs says he wants to hire more officers, and encourage youth programs that work to get kids into productive activities like sports.
Diggs added that he wants his officers to be professional, respectful and to show empathy. He'd also like to increase community policing, with more officers going door-to-door.
