LEHIGH ACRES, Fla. -- A man has been arrested for letting his 13 year old son drive a car, which crashed into a canal with a baby inside the car.
It happened at 6:04 Friday evening.
Florida Highway Patrol has arrested Martin Martinez Jr. for child neglect, felony of the third degree, after the crash.
Martinez's 13 year old son was driving eastbound on Butte Street approaching the Champion Avenue intersection at a high rate of speed when the car ran through a stop sign. In an attempt to turn onto Champion Avenue, the car ran off the road, flipped over multiple times, and rolled into a canal facing upside down.
The 13 year old driver was able to exit the car and remove the one year old baby. Both were transported to Lee Memorial Hospital, both were not wearing seatbelts.
