A father accidentally shot and killed his son while cleaning a firearm, the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office confirmed on Sunday.
The accidental shooting took place Saturday afternoon at approximately 3:50 PM in the 400 block of Dorchester Street in Port Charlotte.
The victim's father was cleaning a firearm after the family returned home from a local gun range when the firearm discharged, striking 22-year-old Joshua Jordan, CCSO said.
Family members performed lifesaving measures until authorities arrived.
Joshua was transported to a local hospital where he later died.
