Two dead when car hits tree in North Fort Myers

LEE COUNTY, Fla. -- Two people died in a single-car crash on Bayshore Road Thursday when a car slammed into a tree in the median.

The victims have been identified as 22 -year-old Marvin Bryer of Fort Myers and 18-year-old Jaya Rucker of North Fort Myers.

The crash happened around 1:30 p.m. in the 6900 block of Bayshore Road, approximately 2 miles west of Interstate 75.

Troopers with Florida Highway Patrol say the car was headed westbound "at a high rate of speed" when Bryer lost control of the car, which entered the median, overturned, and hit a tree roof-first.

Both occupants died at the scene.

It is unknown if alcohol was a factor in the crash.
