Detectives are asking for tips to help put two brazen burglars responsible for ransacking a home and taking more than $15,000 worth of jewelry behind bars.
Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers say a black Volkswagen was seen driving around the cul-de-sac on Lightning Bug Court in Fort Myers. A witness saw the men in long pants and sweat jackets early in the afternoon canvassing the neighborhood as two women waited in a getaway car.
“I was kind of in denial but it was scary,” the victim said.
The owner of home tells Four In Your Corner the thief went through the back of the house and was able to pry open the glass door.
“People always say it makes you feel violated. Well, it does because they’re looking through your drawers. They came into the bedroom and looked through everything.”
A neighbor’s surveillance equipment captured the burglars pull into the victim’s driveway. Detectives believe thieves were inside the home for more than 20 minutes before walking away with thousands of dollars worth of jewelry.
“One carried a backpack, the other one was on his cell phone talking and it looked like he was face timing,”a neighbor said. “The two guys were dressed in long pants, long jackets, sweat pants, sweat jackets, both had hats on.”
A witness says he was suspicious something was off because of the men’s usual attire in the middle of the day, but it wasn’t until right before they left when he realized something had happened inside.
“They weren’t running in a hurry but they really tipped it off because the car had no rear license plate,” he said.
Anyone with information on the suspects is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS (8477). All callers will remain anonymous and will be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000.
