LEE COUNTY, Fla. – A Lehigh Acres man will spend the next year in jail following his fifth DUI conviction.
Prosecutors say 58-year-old Edward Shambaugh's blood alcohol level was more than three times the legal limit when he plowed his scooter into a median in Lehigh Acres back in December.
His license was reportedly suspended at the time and he already had four previous DUI convictions in Broward County.
Last week, Shambaugh was sentenced to 364 days in Lee County Jail, then 12 months of probation. His license is permanently suspended, and he may not consume or possess alcohol, subject to random screenings.
Shambaugh must also complete the Residential Substance Abuse Treatment program, attend DUI school and pay a $4,000 fine plus court costs.
