Two people were arrested after reportedly attacking a deputy and fleeing the scene during a traffic stop, the Collier County Sheriff's Office said.
Deputies say they stopped a driver, recognized as 31-year-old Devan Rewis, at the Chokoloskee Causeway Bridge to ask why he was out past curfew. When he replied that he went to Walmart, deputies asked him to exit his car. His passenger, 36-year-old Angela Goff remained in the vehicle.
When deputies tried to arrest Rewis for violating an emergency order (curfew) he struck the officer in the head and fled the scene, CCSO said.
Deputies were able to tackle Rewis and detained him by using a taser.
During a search of the vehicle, deputies found a purse containing needles and a methamphetamine smoking pipe that belonged to Goff.
Both were arrested and remain in jail on a combined bond totaling $23,500.
