LEHIGH ACRES, Fla. -- Residents living along Naples Avenue South and Fontana Street East are worried after finding several decapitated goats in the nearby canal.

"At first I thought it was just some trash because people throw garbage out here all the time but I walked down towards the water it was easy enough to see it was a goat," said resident Todd Wright.

Wright said he was walking near the canal on Sunday when he made the discovery.  "I can't believe the things people do sometimes, I can't even imagine why someone would do something like that," said Wright.

Wright obviously upset said he called several agencies trying to find out if something could be done. However, after multiple dead ends he reached out to 4 In Your Corner.

A spokesperson for Lee County told Fox 4 that Lee County Sheriff's Office would be responsible for an investigation. We reached out to LCSO and are still waiting to hear back.

In the meantime, we also reached out to the Department of Health to find out if this poses any threat, we are still waiting to hear back.

The Lehigh Acres Municipal Services Improvement District, also known as LAMSID, is responsible for maintaining the canals.  Shortly after Fox 4 called about the issue, they had crews out removing the carcasses.
