NORTH FORT MYERS, Fla. - Florida Highway Patrol says a Fort Myers man is dead and a young girl was injured after they crashed into a car parked at a gas station.

FHP says 30-year-old Jeremy Freeman was driving northbound on U.S. 41 on the inside lane just after 9 p.m. Monday, approaching Betmar Boulevard.

Troopers say Freeman switched into the right lane, when the tires on the passenger side left a portion of the road, causing him to lose control.  They say he then crashed into a stop sign, crossed both lanes of Betmar Boulevard, then ran into a light pole and ended up crashing into the back of another car parked at a Sunoco gas station.

Freeman's car then overturned.

FHP says Freeman died at the scene.

An 11-year-old passenger in the car is dealing with minor injuries, and was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital.

Nobody was inside the parked car at the time.
