Four thieves broke into Golden Gate High School over the Fourth of July holiday according to a report from the Collier County Sheriff's Office, spraying two maintenance rooms with fire extinguishers and stealing multiple items from a storage room used by the cheerleading squad - just days before the squad is scheduled to attend Cheer Camp at Ave Maria.
"Uniforms, their custom backpacks, razor scooters that they decorated to have at camp," said Rebecca Greenway, mother of cheerleader Mackenzie White. "They've spent weekends and evening fundraising and practicing, not to mention what parents put into it."
"We were all pretty devastated," said White. "It's really hard to see everything we've worked so hard for taken from us in a matter of a day."
The thieves were evidently caught on video, since the redacted sheriff's report describes the four suspects:
- Suspect 1: a juvenile black male, wearing long-sleeve black hoodie, long red pants and white sneakers
- Suspect 2: a juvenile white/Hispanic male, wearing a long-sleeved dark-colored NIKE hoodie, jeans and white sneakers
- Suspect 3: a juvenile white/Hispanic male, wearing long-sleeve black hoodie, gray/black basketball shorts and black high-top sneakers
- Suspect 4: a juvenile, possibly a white female, wearing a gray long-sleeved hoodie and skinny jeans
