CAPE CORAL, Fla. -- The man who barricaded himself inside a Cape Coral home is now in police custody, Cape Coral Police Department said.

Police responded to the scene in the 2700 block of SW 27 St. shortly after 6:00 a.m. Saturday morning.

Christopher Guzman, 30, fired rounds during a domestic disturbance and went back inside the home where there were two young children, police said.

Fox 4 spoke with one neighbor who heard the shots. "I did hear someone yell, but I couldn't make out what it was," he said. "I heard pop, pop, pause, pop."

Multiple units including Patrol, Investigative Services Bureau, SWAT, Crisis Negotiation Team, and Public Affairs responded to the scene. "About eight guys came in, all in tactical gear, helmets, it looked very military," said a witness.

The suspect was eventually contacted by authorities over the phone. He later exited the home and surrendered to police at 7:30 a.m.

Surfside Boulevard was blocked between the 2500 block and 2800 block but traffic is now moving freel.

A few units remain at the home where a search warrant is being served.

This is an ongoing investigation.
