An 8-year-old boy is safe at home after he said a man tried to lure him into his truck after he got off the bus at his bus stop.
Morgan Vandyke said she usually picks up her son Kole from the bus stop, but didn't know Wednesday was a half day.
"A giant banged up white truck came and stopped near me," Kole Vandyke said. "He said get in the white truck with me and let's go find my lost dog in the woods."
Instead, Kole ran home to his family.
"He was very panicky and screaming, and when I asked what was wrong, he told me somebody tried to snatch him from the bus stop," Morgan Vandyke said.
"I felt relieved when I went into the house and he couldn't get me anymore," Kole said.
Morgan immediately called Cape Coral Police, who said they would have somebody patrol the area. Four in Your Corner was there as an officer drove past their home.
Morgan said it was her and Kole's password system that may have saved his life.
"We established a password do anytime somebody says 'Hey, your mom sent me to get you,' or anything, he says 'Well, what's the password?' and if they don't know it, he knows I didn't OK that," Morgan said.
The suspect gave the wrong password, so Kole took off running.
"It's definitely scary. I'm afraid to even let him go out front by himself," Morgan said. "Thank God he's just OK."
"I don't trust other people besides my mom," Kole said.
Kole said the man was a thin black man with a long white beard. He was driving an old white pickup truck with a "South of the Border" sticker on the back and a Georgia License plate. If you have any information, you're asked to call Cape Coral Police at (239) 573-3068.
