Firefighters from Immokalee, North Collier and Florida Forestry battled a 23 acre brush fire in a field across from the Immokalee Airport Tuesday. It was contained by 6:00 pm.
"Forestry came in and they were immediately cutting lines with their tractors and plow," said Immokalee Battalion Chief Thomas Cunningham.
Accessing the fire was difficult at first because it was in a fenced in field full of cattle.
"The rain that we received the other day, kept this fire from being, 50, 60 or 75 acres," said Cunningham.
No cause of the fire has been determined. Cunningham says the return of dry, breezy conditions is increasing the chance for more fires.
