One person was killed and another person was left injured in a single vehicle crash Sunday morning on U.S.27, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Troopers responded to the crash at approximately 4:50 a.m.

A 2011 Chevy Silverado traveling north on U.S. 27 ran off the roadway and struck a railroad cantilever/crossing gate head on, FHP said.

The passenger, a 30-year-old from Sunrise, Florida, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver, a 37-year-old from Davie, Florida, was transported by air-med to Lee Memorial Hospital in critical condition.

Troopers say alcohol was a factor in the crash.

This is an ongoing investigation.
