LEE COUNTY, Fla. --The Cape Coral man convicted of savagely killing his own father earlier this year will now spend the rest of his life in prison.
Matthew Marshall, who represented himself during his trial last month, was found guilty of dismembering his father Rick Marshall and then hiding his body parts.
58-year-old James Marshall was reported missing in February by a business associate after he failed to show up for a conference in California. His dismembered body was later found dismembered in the woods near his Island Cove condo.
Investigators have considered this case one of the most gruesome crimes in Cape Coral history.
Monday, Judge Porter sentenced Marshall to life in prison on the murder charge with no possibility for parole. He also received 15 years for abuse of the dead body, and five years for tampering with evidence. All served consecutively.
