NAPLES, Fla. -- The Collier County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of a 2-month-old girl that was found unresponsive in a car Monday.
According to CCSO, the girl's mother, 30-year-old Krystal Williams, told investigators that she had fed her daughter Abigail at her home around 7 or 8 a.m., then laid down for a nap with her. Around 11 a.m. Krystal awoke to find the girl unresponsive.
Krystal says she and a friend placed Abigail in a car and began driving to the hospital, but ran out of gas along the way. That's when they pulled into the parking lot of a 7-Eleven store on Tamiami Trail and called CCSO for help.
EMS arrived and took Abigail to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Deputies say Krystal was very distraught and crying at the scene, but noted that she was also observed dozing off at times.
The cause of Abigail's death is unknown at this time. An autopsy is scheduled Tuesday.
The incident is still under investigation.
