Collier County deputies arrested a 21-year-old man for having sex with a minor.
Rante Baker is charged with committing a sexual act against a minor between 12 and 15 years old.
Investigators say he befriended the girl on Instagram, and another app called Kik, which allows users to send videos and pictures to each other.
The teen told investigators she had sex with Baker after meeting him once. Baker, who lists his occupation as a rapper, is currently homeless.
"Kids don't understand that when they are online with somebody who is technically a stranger, they spend time talking to this person and they then believe this person is their friend," said Jacqueline Stephens, CEO of the Children's Advocacy Center.
Stephen's said her agency has seen a steady rise of predators going after kids through these apps. She says kid use these apps because parents can't see their conversations.
"Text messaging is easier for somebody to check the phone, read and view the text messaging, as opposed to going into some of these different apps or Facebook."
Stephens suggests parents install controls on their child's phone so they can't download certain apps. She also say if your child is behaving differently or getting poor grades, it could be an indication something is wrong online.
