COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. -- The 2016 NFL draft kicks off Thursday night, and one player with ties to Southwest Florida may be getting a jump start on his pro football career.
Clemson cornerback Mackensie Alexander is among the top-rated players at his position, and is expected to be selected late in the 1st round.
Some mock drafts, including the Scripps Mock Draft, predict the Pittsburgh Steelers will take Alexander with the 25th overall pick. Other possible destinations for him include the Kansas City Chiefs with the 28th pick, Arizona Cardinals with the 29th pick, or Super Bowl runners-up Carolina Panthers with the 30th pick, according to experts.
Alexander is an Immokalee native and graduate of Immokalee High School.
We wish him good luck.
Round 1 of the draft begins at 8pm Thursday, with the 2nd and 3rd rounds taking place at 7pm Friday, and the remaining rounds on Saturday.
UPDATE -- Alexander was not selected in the first round Thursday night. He now awaits selection in the 2nd round, which begins at 7 PM Friday.
