Six weeks after their son was murdered, the family of Kyle Farishian got a lift from the community Sunday. An estimated 500 people showed up at Porky's Roadhouse in Port Charlotte Sunday for a fundraiser helping Kyle's family.
"This is an unsolved crime, and they have fears," said family friend Jay McCreary. "They are coming here to show that fear to show that support, to show that respect."
Kyle was working the overnight shift at the 7-11 on Aqui Esta Drive in Punta Gorda November 1st. Police say someone walked into the store, shot the 18-year-old and set fire to the restaurant.
"Kyle Farishian was a great kid, and we all loved him, and we loved their family," said McCreary.
8 bands and dozens of employees pitched in to organize the all day celebration. Their goal is to raise $4,000.
"We put it out on social media, and we were inundated with people who wanted to be involved," said Porky's owner Blake Zinn.
Kyle's step dad JJ McCoy says he's been told by investigators not to do any on camera interviews regarding this case. He said through a statement tonight he is "very overwhelmed by the show of community, support, and love."
The Punta Gorda Police Department is offering a $20,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in this case.
