Boaters across Southwest Florida came together Saturday to honor our military missing at sea.
Biodegradable wreaths donated by Wreaths Across America were carefully placed into the deep blue sea to honor veterans. As wreaths were laid down, boaters present took a moment of silence to reflect and remember those who gave their lives so we can live in freedom.
"For us and our crew we didn't want to miss the opportunity to honor those who have come before us," Lt. Bobby Carsey with the U.S. Coast Guard said. "The guys that didn't make it back as well and not just in the coast guard but the military in general."
The first part of the ceremony was held on land where JROTC students from Lehigh and Oasis High School presented the wreaths.
Mayor Marni Sawicki also declared December 12th as Wreaths Across America - Operation: Tribute At Sea Day.
