Golden Gate man's disappearance has friends...

Posted

Friends and co-workers of 30-year-old Salvador Sanchez Azcona - who is known to his friends as "Chava" have been worried for a week. Their friend was last seen around 10:00 p.m. Sunday night at the 8-Ball Lounge in Golden Gate, not far from where he works at 4J's Feed Tack & Western Wear on Collier Boulevard.

Azcona's friend Joel Martinez said he learned the news Tuesday morning.

"She called me and said, 'hey you know Chava, he hasn't got home since Sunday,'" Martinez said.

They called Azcona's boss at 4J's, who filed a missing persons report and put up posters with Azcona's photo, offering a reward for any information about his whereabouts.

Earlier this week, Collier County Sheriff's deputies found Azcona's pickup truck behind the Super 8 motel at I-75 and Collier Boulevard. They searched the nearby woods for Azcona, with no luck.

"I'm really sad," Martinez said. "I just want to see him again. I hope he's OK."

This isn't the first time the woods behind the Super 8 were searched by police. In May 2015, the body of 21-year-old Heather King was found after she disappeared. After deputies searched the woods, King's father went back to the area and found her body in a small clearing.

Anyone with information about Azcona is asked to call the Collier County Sheriff's Office at 239-252-9300.
