The Lee County Sheriff's Office is trying to find the man who stabbed and robbed a man at a Fort Myers condo complex.
It happened just after 11 a.m. near an elevator complex at the Whiskey Creek condominiums in Fort Myers. Investigators say a man armed with a knife threatened another man's life, stabbed him twice, then robbed him before running from the area.
The victim was treated at a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
Our reporter on the scene said building 6102 was blocked off by crime scene tape, and a police helicopter was seen flying over head throughout the afternoon.
Witnesses tell our reporter a man ran into the 7-Eleven next door to the condo complex and said someone had been stabbed. The witness then went outside to find a man bleeding on the ground.
Neighbors say the area is traditionally safe and quiet. "It's a very safe area, very safe when you're in the Whiskey Creek area. It's definitely patrolled." said Mark Franzer, a resident of the building.
Neighboring schools briefly went on lockdown as the search for the suspect commenced.
The suspect is described as a white male, in his mid to late 20's, between 5'8'' and 5'10'' with a muscular build, shoulder length sandy colored hair with a fade cut, wearing grey sweatpants and a white tank top. He is believed to have a Northeastern accent.
Anyone with information on the identity of the suspect, or who has any information about suspicious activity near Whiskey Creek this morning is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS.
