SOUTHWEST FLORIDA -- Americans who hit the road over the Independence Day Weekend were greeted with 11-year-low gas prices.
The national average for a gallon of regular gas fell to $2.27 on Sunday. That's down three cents from this time last week, 49 cents lower than last year, and $1.39 lower than the price two years ago.
Meanwhile, gas price averages in Southwest Florida have fallen to just under $2.17, which is a 5 cent drop over the last week.
In fact, the average price has declined for 27 consecutive days in Florida. During that time, the average prices for regular unleaded declined 12 cents in Florida.
And gas experts predict continuing stable prices at the pump the rest of the year. AAA says that motorists may have already seen the peak price of 2016, which topped out at $2.35 in Florida on June 7th.
