With rain from Hurricane Matthew possible in Collier County, residents in a Naples neighborhood are worried about flooding.

"All these people that are driving by, they're putting their vehicles at risk," said John McLaughlin, who lives in the 1100 block of Ridge Street.

The one mile road connects Tamiami Trail with Goodlete-Frank Road.  McLaughlin says simple trips to the mailbox or grocery store are challenging.

"You're aware it's probably 12 to 16 inches out there."

He says it happens two or three times a year.  He believes the area is so prone to flooding because the neighborhood was built on an old lake that was filled in.

"This whole weekend, we're going to have to deal with it.  I've already put up my somewhat sandbags."

McLaughlin says the county was supposed to fix the problem by the end of 2016.

Fox 4 checked with a county spokesperson on the status of the project and we're still waiting to hear back.
