COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. -- An Arizona man is recovering in the hospital after troopers say he attempted to flee an arrest and was hit by an SUV.
According to Florida Highway Patrol, troopers arrived just after midnight Wednesday night to the scene of a disabled vehicle near mile marker #59 on Alligator Alley.
Troopers say they determined that 25-year-old Marcos Gonzalez of Phoenix, Arizona was the driver of the car, but had no driver's license. He was placed under arrest, but began to flee on foot, running into the northbound lanes of Interstate 75.
That's where Gonzalez was struck by the mirror of a passing SUV.
He was transported to a Miami hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
Troopers say a passenger in Gonzalez's car also fled the scene on foot, and was not located.
The incident remains under investigation.
