Fatality investigation under way in Naples crash Thursday morning

NAPLES, Fla. -- Troopers are investigating a fatal crash on Rattlesnake Hammock Road in the Lely area.

The crash was reported shorty after 7:30 a..m. at the intersection with Sierra Meadows Drive, that's just east of Collier Boulevard.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, the victim, 20-year-old Dillon Huey of Naples, was driving on Sierra Meadows Drive and attempted to turn left onto Rattlesnake Hammock, but crossed into the path of an eastbound Jeep.

The Jeep slammed into the driver's side of the car, killing Huey at the scene.  He has not been identified yet.

The driver of the Jeep, 24-year-old Graciela Padron of Naples, suffered serious injuries and was transported to Lee Memorial Hospital.

No word on whether any charges will be filed.

Troopers report that the eastbound lanes of Rattlesnake Hammock were closed for a few hours, but are now open again.
