**UPDATE (2:30PM)** -- Charlotte County Public Works says Bermont Road is fully open to traffic again after this morning's fatal crash.

PUNTA GORDA, Fla. -- Troopers say a Lehigh Acres man died and three others were injured Monday morning in a car collision involving an SUV that was trying to make a pass.
According to Florida Highway Patrol, the crash happened at 7:32am on Bermont Road near State Road 31.
Troopers say 23-year-old Shelby Robinson of Punta Gorda was driving an SUV westbound and drove into the eastbound lanes to pass another vehicle at the same time a minivan was approaching eastbound.
The driver of the minivan, 60-year-old Gerald Shipman of Lehigh Acres, drove onto the shoulder in an attempt to avoid a collision, but the two vehicle sit collided head-on.
Shipman died at the scene.
Robinson suffered serious injuries and was taken to Lee Memorial. Two children in her SUV, ages 1 and 3, suffered minor injuries and are also being treated at Lee Memorial.
Charges are pending further investigation.
The Charlotte County Sheriff's Office is urging drivers to avoid the area for several hours while FHP investigates and clears the scene.
