Everglades City man charged with producing meth

An Everglades City man is in jail after being charged with producing meth. 31-year-old Reynolds Leon Cavins also faces charges of resisting arrest and tampering with evidence.

According to the Collier County Sheriff's Office, a deputy stopped Cavins on Plantaion Parkway Thursday night for not having proper lights on his bicycle.  Cavins attempted to flee into a mangrove swamp before being tased by deputies.

He was found to a have a plastic "one pot" bottle of methamphetamine in his possession, along with other materials used in the production of meth..

Cavins has a long arrest record in Collier County going back to 2008, when he was arrested for aggravated battery against a pregnant victim.

His court date is set for December 12.
