Drug take-down leads officers on high speed chase

CAPE CORAL, Fla. -- Cape Coral Narcotics Detectives took down a drug dealer Thursday night who didn't want to go quietly, assaulting officers, wrecking a car, and running through a residential neighborhood. 

During the past several weeks the Vice, Intelligence, and Narcotics (VIN) Unit conducted controlled purchases of cocaine from Thad A. Yother, 26, of Fort Myers. 

Thursday evening, a drug bust was conducted at the Dollar General Store located at 924 NE Pine Island Road. During the takedown, Yother ignored officers' commands and fled in a car, intentionally striking an occupied Cape Coral Police Department Street Crimes Unit (SCU) vehicle and intentionally swerving at two other officers. He then fled at a high rate of speed, driving on and off-road in an attempt to escape arrest. 

A short time later, Yother lost control of and crashed into a power pole support wire at NE Pine Island Lane and NE 15th Avenue and then fled on foot. He was apprehended after a lengthy foot chase and with the assistance of a Taser. 

Yother as placed under arrest on a variety of charges and transported to the Lee County Jail. Some of those charges include: Sale of Cocaine, Possession of Cocaine, Trafficking of Heroin, Fleeing and Elude, Leaving the Scene of a Crash with property damage, Aggravated Battery on LEO, and Resisting without Violence.
