SANIBEL, Fla. -- Fishermen, beachgoers, and folks living nearby Blind Pass are gearing up for a dredging project set to begin Monday.
Officials with the project said it will improve water quality in the area between Sanibel and Captiva islands and help with the erosion at surrounding beaches.
According to officials certain areas of the beach may be closed up to 500 feet where active construction is happening. Popular fishing spots in the area may also be temporarily closed to while they dredge.
Additionally, 4 of the parking spots at Blind Pass Beach Park will be closed during the project. Beach goers will be redirected to park about 2.3 miles down the road at Bowman's Beach Park.
The project is funded by tourist-tax revenue and a grant from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.
If all goes according to plan it's expected to be complete in the middle of April.
