CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. -- A suspect was arrested Wednesday morning, accused of striking a deputy with his car and fleeing into a Port Charlotte community.
26-year-old James Swore has been charged with Aggravated Battery on the Deputy, Aggravated Fleeing to Elude, Criminal Mischief with damage and various narcotics charges.
According to the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office, the deputy responded at 7:21 a.m. to the entrance to the Riverwood community on S.R. 776 near the El Jobean area, after a report of a suspicious vehicle.
The deputy had a confrontation with Swore, during which he started to drive off, hitting the deputy in the process.
Swore crashed through the community's front gate and continued into the community. Residents directed ensuing deputies to the location of Swore, who came to a stop at a dead end in the road, where he fled on foot. He was located in a wooded area and taken into custody.
The deputy sustained minor injuries, was treated at a nearby medical facility and released.
