One person died Tuesday morning after being hit by a vehicle in North Fort Myers.
The accident happened just before 7 a.m. near the intersection of Bayshore and Hart Road in North Fort Myers.
The Florida Highway Patrol says 77-year-old Emery Okerlund of North Fort Myers was in the crosswalk attempting to cross Bayshore when he was struck by a GMC driven by 24-year-old Amanda Lapon of North Fort Myers.
Investigators say Lapon had a green light and tried to avoid hitting Okerlund, but her evasive maneuver was too late to avoid hitting him. Okerlund was pronounced dead at the scene.
Lapon was not hurt.
It is not clear if Lapon will face any charges in connection with the crash.
