FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Crews are expected to wrap up repairs on the Tice Street overpass in Fort Myers on Friday morning.
The overpass was damaged Tuesday when a recycling truck carrying a tall load struck the bottom of the overpass, located just south of the Palm Beach Boulevard exit, while driving on Interstate 75. The collision took out chunks of concrete and exposed rebar from the bridge.
The driver of the truck was cited for exceeding the maximum height.
This wasn't the first time the bridge has required repairs. In 2014, a backhoe smashed into the bridge.
Tuesday's collision caused troopers to close two lanes of the interstate and both directions of Tice Street. All lanes have since reopened, but drivers on Tice Street will encounter closures of one lane while repair work is being done.
Drivers are urged to use caution in the area.
