ORLANDO, Fla. — Universal Orlando Resort is extending its closure due to the coronavirus pandemic. It originally planned to reopen at beginning of April. The resort will now remain closed through April 19.

The closure affects Universal Studios Florida, Universal's Islands of Adventure, Volcano Bay water park, Universal CityWalk Orlando and the resort's six Loews Hotels.

Park official say the closure is being extended for "the health and safety of our guests and team members."

The announcement came the same day Orange County's Mayor issued a "stay at home" order for county residents starting Thursday night through April 9.
