FORT MYERS, Fla. — This week, new available resources are helping feed local families who are feeling the financial burdens of the coronavrius.

Monday, Harry Chapin Food Bank is starting their new drive-thru food distributions at 12 different locations across Southwest Florida.

Each site is set up to meet the safety guidelines of social distancing.

Volunteers manning each location will hand out prepackaged hunger relief kits to cars driving though.

Each kit is filled with 20 pounds of nutritional food that can feed a family of four for five days.

Harry Chapin says their goal is to distribute 5,000 kits each week, which comes to the cost of around $150,000.

The food bank is seeking monetary donations to help continue their service and prevent more food hoarding from local grocery chain stores.

They're also looking for volunteers to help pack kits and work distribution sites.
