Cape teacher's misbehavior started in 2005

Posted
CAPE CORAL, Fla. -- Shocking details can be found in a 246-page Lee County School District document saying former Cape Coral High teacher Doug Dingerson was sexually suggestive to two students on the first day of school. It says that he referred to "50 shades of grey" and saying he "enjoyed watching people in pain" also saying " you're just my type....too bad you're too young."

FOX 4 asked current students what he was like as a teacher. "He would help everyone out, ya know he was a good teacher and all that. Whenever you needed help, he would help you out. Now hearing this, I wouldn't have expected him to ever done that, it was shocking," said student Emilio Casasola.

In the report, one girl said she was "concerned for her safety and thinks Mr. Dingerson is going to rape her." All this leaves other students a little freaked out. "If we have like pedophiles, like creepy people like that, like lurking around our school, where we're supposed to have a nice environment to learn and grow, it's a little concerning," said junior Haley Tapken.

Even more concerning to many in the community, is what Four in Your Corner's Malcolm Johnson found as he dug deeper into Dingerson's file. It shows in 2005 he got an official letter saying it shall serve as an official reprimand for his conduct. But the file doesn't say what that conduct was. In 2009, fellow teacher, Linda Stebbins reported seeing a female student stroke coach Dingerson's arm in an up and down motion. And it gave her the creeps. Another teacher reported the relationship between Doug and a student becoming sexual, splitting up with his wife and moving in with the student.

Investigators say they found Dingerson with an 18-year-old who just graduated caught in a state of undress and inside a car with the seats folded down. Some students now wonder why Dingerson's distractions were allowed to continue.

"I don't want to worry about that when I'm trying to learn and become something better than what I am now," said Tapken.

FOX 4 looked into who was worrying about what Doug Dingerson was up to and have been working to get that answer from the District by calling headquarters and emailing them more than once with a simple question, "Why was he allowed to stay on the job after concerns about his relationships with students were raised years ago?"

The District hasn't responded.
