Caloosa Middle School student arrested for arson

An 11-year-old boy is arrested after starting two fires inside the boy's bathroom at Caloosa Middle School.

On Wednesday at 10:30 a.m.,Deputy Ehlers, the School's Resource Officer was informed of a small fire in the boy's bathroom located in the 6th grade wing.

The Deputy discovered burnt paper towels that had been extinguished with water.

At 12:30 p.m., he was notified of a strong burning odor coming from a bathroom where he later discovered a plastic garbage bin on fire which he later extinguished, according to a report.

After reviewing the school surveillance camera, Deputy Ehlers immediately conducted a search on the only student near the rest room during both fire incidents. A black in color lighter was found inside the student's pocket, according to a report.

Detective Kane with the Bureau of Fire & Arson Investigation (BFAI) responded to the school. The investigation revealed that the fire was intentionally and unlawfully set and is a direct result of arson.

Detectives arrested the 11-year-old for one county of arson. The student was transported to the Juvenile Assessment Center without any incident.
