Bobcat released to wild after fire recovery

SANIBEL, Fla. -- An orphaned female baby bobcat that was found by a local news crew covering a brush fire near the Southwest Florida Airport in May was released Thursday in Collier County.

After the fire, the bobcat was brought to CROW by the Florida Fish and Wildlife with slightly burned paws and dehydrated. The bobcat successfully recovered and was paired with an older female orphaned bobcat at CROW who acted as her surrogate. 

After their rehabilitation and recovery at CROW, both bobcats were transferred to Big Cat Rescue in Tampa at the end of June for extended rehabilitation and care.

After 7 months, both bobcats where successfully rehabilitated and returned to the wild by Big Cat Rescue with assistance from Florida Fish and Wildlife.
