ESTERO, Fla. -- An early morning bear sighting near a Southwest Florida elementary school Wednesday has wildlife officials investigating.

Reports indicate that two large black bears were seen on the grounds of Pinewoods Elementary around 5:45 AM.  The school is located on Stoneybrook Golf Drive, just off Corkscrew Road east of I-75.

The school was not placed on lockdown and classes are being held as scheduled.

Police and Florida Fish and Wildlife were on scene investigating, but were unable to locate the bear.  A deputy will be stationed at the school all day to monitor the campus.

Last month black bears were seen twice on the campus of Three Oaks Elementary School, which just over three miles away from Pinewoods Elementary.  Wildlife officials managed to tranquilize that bear and relocate it.
