LEE COUNTY, Fla. -- If you are expecting gifts to be delivered to your doorstep, you need to be on the look out for porch pirates that are on the prowl in Southwest Florida.

Cape Coral Police say there is an uptick in porch thefts. Thieves are taking small packages worth around $30 dollars, all the way up to high end, expensive presents worth hundreds.

One Cape Coral woman says her dad was planning on surprising her with a new camera lens for the holiday...until it was stolen.  "My dad was tracking it; they said it was in fact dropped off at the front door.  Somebody I guess ran up and had a Merry Christmas," says Faine Tebo.

Cape Coral Police have some tips so this doesn't happen to you.  Always track your package so you know when it is delivered, and pick it up as soon as possible. Or leave a sign for the delivery service to drop off the package to a side door or a neighbor's house if you won't be home.
