CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. -- A Good Samaritan alerted deputies to a suspicious package floating in the water that turned out to be several pounds of narcotics.
According to the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office, a caller alerted authorities around 11:30 a.m. Saturday about an item found floating in the water in the area of Don Pedro Island State Park.
Arriving deputies were handed the package, which contained a white powdery substance later identified as cocaine. The bag weighed over 2 and a half pounds, and was placed into evidence.
Sheriff Bill Prummell commends the caller for keeping the community safe by following the "if you see something, say something" approach.
