Florida's 2020 Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday: Everything you need to know

TAMPA, Fla. — Despite many Florida counties still waiting for approval from the Florida Department of Education on their school reopening plans, Florida's 2020 Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday is set to begin Friday, Aug. 7, and end Sunday, Aug. 9.

During this time, the following items are exempt from sales tax:

  • Most school supplies selling for $15 or less
  • Clothing, footwear and accessories selling for $60 or less
  • The first $1,000 of the sales price of computers and accessories (when purchased for noncommercial and personal use)

RECOMMENDED:

It's important to note that the sales tax holiday does not apply to:

  • Any item of clothing selling for more than $60
  • Any school supply item selling for more than $15
  • Books that are not otherwise exempt
  • Computers and computer-related accessories purchased for commercial purposes
  • Rentals or leases of any eligible items
  • Repairs or alterations of any eligible items
  • Sales of any eligible items in a theme park, entertainment complex, public lodging establishment, or airport.
