Attempted robbery at Fort Myers Beach 7-Eleven

FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla. -- Lee County deputies are now searching for an attempted armed robber accused of holding up a convenience store Tuesday night.

It happened around 9 p.m. at the 7-Eleven store on the corner of Driftwood Lane and Estero Boulevard.

Police say a man walked into the store and pulled a black semi-automatic handgun on the store clerk and demanded cash. When the  clerk refused, the suspect ran away.

The robber is believed to be a white or Hispanic male, 20-30 years old, between 5'8" and 5'11" in height, with a heavy build. 

He was armed with a medium to full sized automatic handgun. 

Employees from the Outrigger Resort across the street from the store tell Fox 4 that deputies were searching by foot and using a helicopter.
